Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in August 2020

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services received and attended to a total of 184 cases in August 2020.

Violence against Children:

  • A total of 103 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children in August 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 36 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 24 cases of negligence, 20 cases of physical abuse, 8 cases of emotional abuse, 7 cases of witness to domestic violence, 5 cases of victims of bullying and harassment and 3 cases of victims of cyber bullying.

Gender based violence and Domestic violence:

  • A total of 28 cases involving gender-based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in August 2020.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve 10 cases of emotional abuse and 10 cases of physical abuse.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 3 cases of rape, 2 cases of sexual abuse, 1 case of withholding/damage to property, 1 case of economic and financial abuse and 1 case of negligence.

Family Issues:

  • A total of 16 cases were reported to and attended in this category in August 2020.
  • Reports include 10 cases of custody or access, 5 cases of parenting issues and 1 case of child maintenance.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities:

  • A total of 13 cases were reported to and attended in this category in August 2020.
  • Reports include 10 cases of care support for persons with disabilities and 3 cases of care and support to the elderly.

Self-harm and Suicidal behavior:

  • 9 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in August 2020.

Behavioral problems:

  • A total of 9 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioral problems of children in August 2020.
  • Reports include 3 case of running away and 3 cases of refusal to attend school.

Children in conflict with the law:

  • A total of 4 cases of this category were reported to and attended in August 2020.
  • Reports include 1 case of theft, 1 case of physical assault/ aggression.

Child rights violations:

  • A total of 2 cases were reported to and attended in this category in August 2020.
  • Reports include 1 case of acquiring NID/ Passport/ Birth Certificate and 1 case of refusal for access to education.
