Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi, today took part in the “Virtual Meeting of Commonwealth Ministers for Women’s Affairs and Gender and Development on Covid-19”.
As the reports record daily increase in the Covid-19 cases globally, the main purpose of this special virtual meeting is to exchange information and share experiences on the work and progress made by the participating countries to overcome issues faced by them on their social and economic affairs due to this global pandemic.
Minister Aishath Mohamed Didi shared information on the impacts on Maldivian women and girls in relation to violence during current health emergency situation. She also emphasizedand elaboratedonthe measures taken by the government to ensure safety and wellbeing of persons with disabilities, women and children and further the efforts made by the government to overcomesocial challenges faced by the society and policies implemented by the government to prevail over the current situation in the country.
High-level dignitaries from Commonwealth countries including Maldives, Kenya, Barbados, Spain, South Africa, Bangladesh, Rwanda, United Kingdom, Australia, Cameroon, Seychelles, Nigeria, Grenada, Jamaica, Guyana, Canada and Bahamas attended the meeting.
