Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted an orientation programme for members of the National and Technical Steering Committees constituted under the Gender Equality Action Plan, formulated by the Ministry to assist the implementation of the Gender Equality Law ratified by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in 2016.
A total of 24 institutions, comprising of government agencies, civil society organizations, political parties and business companies working in the 5 main thematic areas of the Action Plan, participated in the two day programme held at Maldives Customs Service.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of State for Gender and Family Dr. Marium Jabyn highlighted the importance of all sectors working together to prepare the implementation framework of the Action Plan formulated under the Gender Equality Law. She also noted with appreciation the support and assistance provided to the Ministry by all stakeholders in this area.
The Gender Equality Action Plan, developed to support the objectives of the Gender Equality Law, consists of the following five thematic areas: Leadership and Governance, Economic Development, Institutional Gender Mainstreaming, Gender Based Violence and Access to Justice.
The programe was conducted in partnership with UNDP Maldives and the Ministry also plans to establish a monitoring mechanism with the National and Tehnical Steering Committee members in the future.
