Cases Reported to and Attended by the Ministry in October 2018

Ministry of Gender and Family received and attended to a total of 208 cases in October 2018.

Violence against children

  • A total of 106 cases were reported to and attended regarding violence against children, which amounts to 51 percent of the total cases received and attended in October 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases in this category involve cases of sexual abuse, of which 36 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other forms of violence against children include 26 cases of negligence, 24 cases of physical violence, 7 cases of witness to domestic violence, 5 cases of emotional abuse, 6 cases of victims of bullying and harassment and 2 cases of victims of cyber bullying.

Child rights violations

  • A total of 6 cases were reported to and attended regarding child rights violations in October 2018.
  • Reports include 3 cases of refusal of access to education, 2 cases of denial of birth registration and 1 case of refusal to acquire NID card or passport or birth certificate.

 Family issues

  • A total of 22 cases were reported to and attended in this category in October 2018.
  • Reports include 8 cases of custody or access, 6 cases of parenting issues and 3 cases of child maintenance.

Children in conflict with the law

  • A total of 11 cases were reported to and attended regarding children in conflict with the law in October 2018.
  • Reports include 5 cases of theft, 1 case of physical assault and aggression and 1 case of drug possession.

Behavioural problems of children

  • A total of 10 cases were reported to and attended regarding behavioural problems of children in October 2018.
  • Reports include 4 cases of refusal to attend school, 2 cases of running away and 2 cases of perpetrators of bullying and harassment.

Gender based violence and domestic violence

  • A total of 29 cases involving gender based violence and domestic violence were reported to and attended in October 2018.
  • The most frequently reported cases involve forms of physical abuse, of which 14 cases were reported during this period.
  • Other cases reported in this category involve 7 cases of emotional or verbal abuse, 2 cases of controlling behaviour, 2 cases of economic and financial abuse, 2 cases of sexual abuse, 1 case of sexual harassment and 1 case of rape.

Care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities

  • A total of 14 cases were reported to and attended in this category in October 2018.
  • Reports include 7 cases regarding care and support to persons with disabilities and 7 cases related to care and support for elderly.

Suicidal behavior/ thoughts

  • 10 cases regarding self-harm and suicidal behavior were reported to and attended in October 2018.
