Six children under State Care were placed with foster families this year.
A total of six children from Fiyavathi Shelter in Hulhumale’ were placed with foster families, till end of August 2018, They include three boys and three girls between the ages of 5 months to 11 years.
In addition, 10 children under State Care were reintegrated with their families during this period. They include six boys and four girls aged 8 months to 17 years old from Fiyavathi Shelter and Kudakudhinge Hiya in Vilimale’.
Children are placed under foster care or reintegrated with their families following a review process by the Foster Panel to assess the capability of applicants. Foster Panel is established by the Ministry of Gender and Family and comprises of representatives from the Ministry, relevant institutions and civil society organizations.
In order to facilitate the provision of a home and family environment for children living in shelters, the ‘Foster Care Guideline’ regulates the process of placing children under the guardianship of families who express interest to foster children.
Last year, seven children were placed with foster families and 20 children were reintegrated with their families.
