Minister of Gender and Family Ms. Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has celebrated this year’s Eid ul-Fitr with children living in shelters. This is the third consecutive year that she has participated in Eid celebrations with children under State Care.
This year, the Ministry arranged a special screening of the animated cartoon film “Sing” at Olympus Cinema, where a total of 72 children living at Fiyavathi shelter, above the age of 4, participated in the event along with Minister Zenysha. Staff from the Ministry and Fiyavathi Shelter, together with their family members, also took part in the event.
The event was organised with assistance from the Public Service Media (PSM), Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The Ministry has also planned activities for the children living in Kudakudhinge Hiya, to celebrate the Eid holidays. Minister Zenysha will also participate in some of these events, which include different sports activities and a special picnic for the children.
A total of 136 children currently live under State Care, out of which Fiyavathi Shelter houses 87 children aged below 13 years, while Kudakudhinge Hiya accommodates 49 children between the ages 13 to 18 years.
