Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted the third programme of “Professional Development Training on Service Provisions for the Elderly and Victims of Abuse” for health and social workers of Addu City.
A total of 14 health and social workers participated in the 5-day programme, which was conducted with the support of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at Addu High School, Deputy Minister of Gender and Family Ms. Leesha Mohamed noted the need to enhance coordination between all relevant institutions to provide protection and support for victims of violence and senior citizens. She also thanked health and social workers for their hard work and contribution to the sector.
The programme, held from 6 to 10 May, covered a range of topics including information on relevant laws and regulations, procedures for providing protection to children, women, elderly and persons with disabilities, and standards for provision of support and care for victims.
A total of 57 health and social workers from five atolls were trained under the first two phases of the programme.
