Ministry of Gender and Family has conducted special holiday programmes for children under state care. The programmes were designed to develop skills and cater for the interests of different age groups of children in the shelters.
The programmes conducted in Fiyavathi shelter included a Skills Development Camp organised by Maldives National Cadet Corps, and an art programme organised by Advocating Rights of Children (ARC). Programmes conducted in Kudakudhinge Hiya included “Kool Kamp” organised by Leadership Academy, swimming programme organised by ARC, and fishing expeditions arranged by Centurion PLC. In addition, a gardening project and sports competitions were also organised for children living in Kudakudhinge Hiya. A number of children participated in these programmes, which were conducted with the support of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).
A total of 138 children are currently living under State Care, with Fiyavathi shelter housing 87 children aged below 12 years and Kudakudhinge Hiya housing 51 children aged above 12 years.
