Disability Council

Disability Council was established in accordance with Act No 2010/8 (Disability Act) by His Excellency the President of the Maldives. The Council reports to the Minister of Gender and Family as outlined in the Act. The Council is mandated to oversee and monitor the implementation of policies related to persons with disabilities.

Members of the Council are:

  1. Mr. Ahmed Athif (Chair), appointed representative of the President
  2. Dr. Marium Jabyn, appointed member to represent the Ministry of Gender and Family
  3. Dr. Ahmed Ziyan, elected member to represent the medical profession
  4. Ms. Samha Naseer, elected member to represent mental health professionals
  5. Mr. Ahmed Mohamed (Vice Chair), elected member to represent civil society organizations in the field
  6. Mr. Mohamed Mazin, elected member to represent persons with disabilities
  7. Mr. Ahmed Shamweel, elected member to represent guardians/parents of persons with disabilities
Council for Economic Empowerment of Women (CEEW)

The Council for Economic Empowerment of Women (CEEW) was established in 2014 with the objective of providing advice and research, and monitoring the implementation of government policies relating to economic empowerment of women. The Council reports to the Minister of Gender and Family.

Members of the Council are:

  1. Ms. Saeeda Umar (Chair), representative from the Ministry responsible for formulating and implementing economic policies
  2. Ms. Fareeha Shareef (Vice Chair), expert in economic field
  3. Dr. Marium Jabyn, representative from the Ministry of Gender and Family
  4. Ms. Sultana Shakir, appointed representative of the President
  5. Ms. Khadheeja Aboobakuru, representative from a civil society organization
  6. Ms. Raheema Adam, representative from a civil society organization
  7. Ms. Fathimath Manike, representative from the banking sector
  8. Uza. Lua Saheer, representative from the social sector
  9. Mr. Solih Hussain, representative from the business sector
Foster panel

Foster panel was established by the Ministry of Gender and Family in 2010 to oversee and determine the placement of children under state care with foster families, in order to facilitate the provision of a home and family environment for children living in shelters.

Members of the panel are:

  1. Dr. Aminath Zeyba Ahmed (Chairperson), Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (government representative from the medical profession)
  2. Mr. Akram Hussain (Vice Chairperson), Ministry of Gender and Family (government representative overseeing social protection efforts for children)
  3. Mr. Ahmed Imad, Ministry of Gender and Family (government representative overseeing state care institutions for children)
  4. Ms. Fathimath Sausan Hussain, Ministry of Education (government representative from the education sector)
  5. Ms. Aminath Shimyaza, Attorney General’s Office (government representative from the legal sector)
  6. Ms. Zeena Zahid, Advocating the Rights of Children (representative from a civil society organization working on child protection)
  7. Ms. Samira Ali, Society for Health Education (representative from a civil society organization working to provide psychosocial support for children)

 

Committees

Committee to addressing complaints lodged under Gender Equality Law

The Committee is established in accordance with Act No 2016/18 (Gender Equality Law) to investigate and take necessary action to address complaints submitted to the Ministry.

All employees, customers and clients of the Ministry, Family and Children Services Centres and Shelters can lodge complaints under this Act. In addition, those who have lodged complaints to their respective employers and are unsatisfied with the response may also submit the complaint to the Ministry under this act.

Complaints should be lodged in writing to the Ministry via the relevant complaints form and can also be emailed to complaints@gender.gov.mv. The Committee shall address and complete investigations of all complaints submitted within 30 days.

Committee to address complaints lodged under Sexual Harassment Act

The Committee is established in accordance with Act No 2014/16 (Act on Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Abuse) to investigate and take necessary action regarding complaints submitted to the Ministry.  Complaints should be lodged in writing to the Ministry or emailed to hr@gender.gov.mv. The Committee shall address and complete investigations of all complaints submitted within 60 days.

Review committee under Right to Information Act

Trust Fund Committee

This Committee is established to regulate and oversee allocation of funds donated to Ministry and shelters, as per the Public Finance Act.
